Fun with Centers!

Here are a couple of pictures of our center work the other day! The kids just LOVE it that we can do centers now with some of the new materials we have received from DonorsChoose! Thanks for your help funding those projects!

Help DonorsChoose.org

Help DonorsChoose.org receive over $1 million for classrooms!

Exciting news! DonorsChoose.org has been selected to compete in the program Starbucks Community Card: Vote.Give.Grow. Between April 1st and April 30th Starbucks invites Starbucks card holders to vote for one of four charities to receive funding. DonorsChoose.org could receive up to $1.8 million - all of which would directly support teachers and kids.

How you can help:
  1. Are you a Starbucks Card Reward member? If so, go to step 2. If not, you can still participate by going to Starbucks and purchasing a $5 Starbucks card (good for $5 of Starbucks treats!)
  2. Make sure you've activated your card (follow the printed instructions), then go to www.votegivegrow.com.
  3. Sign in to turn your Starbucks Card into a Community Card.
  4. Vote for DonorsChoose.org each week in April.

The more votes we get from your community, the more local classrooms Starbucks will support. So vote weekly and spread the word!

Donorschoose.org Special this Week!

Hi Friends,

Can you feel it? It's almost spring! My class could really use help with supplies in order to finish off the school year strong. So I've created a classroom project request on a 501(c)3 charity website called DonorsChoose.org.

I'm writing to ask for any donations possible for my students - no matter the size, it will help my kids. This week only, any donation you make to my project will be doubled! If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. Your tax-deductible donation will have a direct impact on at least 30 students (and many more in the future), and you'll hear back from our class about your impact on our learning!

To learn more or donate:
  1. Visit my Teacher Page, http://www.donorschoose.org/bthies
  2. Choose one of my projects, enter the amount of your donation, and click "Give"
  3. During check-out, enter the word BLOOM where it says "Match or gift code", and your donation will be matched dollar for dollar.
The BLOOM match code will double your donation until the end of the day on Monday, March 19th. So exciting!

Please feel free to send me any questions you may have, and know that my students and I greatly appreciate your support.

PBS Go! Writer's Contest

PBS Kids Go! Is having a writers contest for K-3 grade students in AZ. If you are interested, please let me know! There are two options for your child. First he or she can submit something they have been working on at school. Second is for him or her to work on a story that fits the criteria at home. Either way you will still need to go online and fill out the submission form, print it out, and turn it in before March 16th with a completed story. I will send all applications from school. Specifics are listed in the newsletter or on the PBS website.

I really encourage each child to do this! It’s a fun way to be involved in writing, and we have some very good authors in our class!

Donorschoose.org

Check our new community link: Donorschoose.org. Donorschoose.org is a site where teachers request materials for their classroom and businesses and individuals make donations toward those projects. Once the projects are funded, those materials get sent to the classrooms and students get to benefit from their use! Through this site I have been posting materials our classroom desperately needs. If you or your company is interested in making a donation, please see the website at www.donorschoose.org/bthies. Pass this site along, maybe friends and family can help out as well! And as always, please let me know if you have any questions!
